General Dentist in Andheri West, Mumbai

Assured Dental Care is a general dental clinic in Andheri West, Mumbai, next to Lallubhai Park in Parsi Colony. A general dentist looks after the everyday health of your teeth and gums: check-ups, cleaning, finding and treating decay and gum disease, fillings, root canal treatment, crowns, extractions, replacing missing teeth and advice on how to prevent problems. For most people, a general dentist is the first and the main person to see, and the one who refers you if a problem needs particular skills.

Your care is led by Dr. Shreya Shah, Chief Dentist, who sees adults and children and explains what she finds in plain language. If you are looking for a dentist in Andheri West for a check-up, a toothache or ongoing care, the first step is a call or a message, followed by an examination and a clear plan that you decide on.

01 Overview

What does a general dentist do, and why does it matter to have one?

A general dentist is the dentist who looks after the overall health of your mouth over the years. At each check-up, the teeth, gums, tongue, cheeks and bite are examined, X-rays are taken when they are needed, and any problem is found early. Prevention, such as cleaning advice and regular professional cleaning, is as much part of the work as treatment.1

Decay and gum disease are the two most common dental problems, and both can be present without pain. Finding them early usually means a small filling or a clean, instead of root canal treatment or extraction later. Our teeth cleaning and scaling page explains professional cleaning, and the dental fillings page explains how cavities are repaired.4

When a problem needs particular skills, a general dentist coordinates your care. Dr. Shah treats a wide range of problems at the clinic and refers when a case needs a different skill, for example complex surgery or a very young child. Having one dentist who knows your mouth and your history makes every decision easier.

A general dentist looks after the whole mouth over time, catches problems early and coordinates care.

02 Suitability

When should you see a general dentist in Andheri West?

Dr. Shreya Shah advises on how often to come after an examination. These are the general patterns.

Book a visit if you have

  • Not been to a dentist for a year or more.
  • Bleeding, swollen or sore gums, or bad breath that does not go.
  • Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet food, or a dark spot or hole in a tooth.
  • A chipped, cracked or loose tooth, or a filling or crown that has come out.
  • A wish to ask about whitening, straightening or replacing a tooth.

Call us the same day, or go to a hospital, for

  • Severe toothache that keeps you awake.
  • Swelling of the face or gum, or a fever with a toothache.
  • A knocked-out tooth or an injury to the mouth.
  • Bleeding that does not stop after firm pressure for 20 minutes.
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing, which needs a hospital at once.

For a toothache that is getting worse, root canal treatment or tooth extraction may be needed, and the dental emergency treatment page explains what to do the same day.

Regular visits catch problems early, and urgent problems are seen as early as we can.

03 Options

The care a general dentist provides at our Andheri West dental clinic

Most care falls into three groups. Dr. Shah explains what applies to you, and refers when a problem needs a different skill.

Prevention and check-ups

Examinations, X-rays when needed, professional cleaning, advice on brushing and diet, and fluoride or sealants for those at higher risk. This is the part that keeps treatment small.

Regular visits

Repair and restoration

Fillings, root canal treatment, crowns and extractions for teeth that are decayed, infected or broken. The aim is to save the natural tooth when it is reasonable to do so.

As needed

Replacing and improving teeth

Bridges, dentures and implants for missing teeth, and whitening, bonding, veneers and straightening for the look of the teeth. Each is explained, with its limits.

04 Procedure

What happens at a check-up with a general dentist in Andheri West, step by step

A first check-up usually takes one visit. Your own visit may have more or fewer steps.2

A good check-up finds problems early and ends with a plan that you understand.

  1. A friendly start

We welcome you and ask what brought you in and what worries you. We ask about your health, medicines, allergies and past dental treatment.

  2. Looking at the whole mouth

Dr. Shah examines your teeth, gums, tongue, cheeks, jaw joints and bite, and checks for decay, gum disease and anything unusual.

  3. X-rays when they are needed

X-rays are taken only when the examination shows they are useful, for example to look between teeth or at roots and bone. We explain why first.

  4. Checking your gums

If gums bleed or look swollen, the spaces around the teeth are measured with a fine probe, which shows whether the problem is in the gum alone or deeper.3

  5. Explaining what she finds

You are shown what is found, in plain language. You hear which problems are urgent, which can wait and which need nothing.

  6. Cleaning if it is needed

Plaque and tartar are removed, and the teeth are polished. We show you how to brush and clean between your teeth in a way that suits your mouth.

  7. Making a plan

If treatment is needed, the options, the number of visits, the risks and the order are explained, and what each stage involves is discussed once the plan is clear.

  8. Planning the next visit

We agree how often you should come back, and how to reach us if something changes between visits.

05 Cost

What decides the cost of general dental care in Andheri West, Mumbai?

Cost depends on your evaluation. General dental care is planned for each person, so no single figure fits everyone.

A check-up and clean and a course of treatment are very different. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the plan, and the cost of each stage is discussed before you decide to go ahead.

What changes the plan

  • Whether you need a check-up and clean only or treatment as well
  • The X-rays needed
  • The type of treatment, such as a filling, root canal or crown
  • The materials
  • The number of visits
  • Any laboratory work
  • Follow-up and maintenance

What the evaluation covers

  • A talk about your health and any worries
  • An examination of your teeth, gums and bite
  • X-rays only when they are needed
  • An explanation of what is found and a plan
06 Aftercare

How should you look after your teeth between visits, and when should you call?

Every dayBrush twice a day, including last thing at night, with fluoride toothpaste. Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes, and spit out the toothpaste rather than rinsing.2
Food and drinkKeep sugary food and drink to mealtimes and drink water between meals. Frequent sugary snacks and drinks feed the bacteria that cause decay.
HabitsDo not smoke or chew tobacco, which harm gums and slow healing. Do not use your teeth to open packets or bite hard objects, and tell us if you grind your teeth.
Regular visitsCome for check-ups and cleaning as advised, and keep up regular cleaning. Call us early if something changes, such as a sore, a lump, bleeding or a tooth that hurts.

Warning signs that need a call the same day

  • A toothache that does not settle or wakes you at night
  • Swelling of the face or gum
  • Bleeding gums that do not improve after two weeks of good cleaning
  • A mouth sore or white or red patch that does not heal within about three weeks
  • A tooth that is loose, broken or knocked out
  • A filling or crown that comes out

Call 08806796696 or message us on WhatsApp. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling is spreading to your eye or neck, go to a hospital emergency department. For other urgent problems, call us first, and see dental emergency treatment.

Daily care and regular visits prevent most dental problems.

07 Risks and limits

What are the limits of general dental care, and when do we refer?

Risks and complications

  • A problem found at a check-up may need treatment that is uncomfortable or takes several visits, which is explained first.
  • Treatment such as fillings and crowns can cause sensitivity for a few days.
  • Cleaning can make gums tender or bleed lightly for a day or two.
  • Some treatments, such as extractions, carry risks such as dry socket or numbness, which are explained before treatment.
  • Restorations do not last for ever and will need repair or replacement at some point.
  • Even with good care, decay and gum disease can return.

When we advise against, delay or refer

  • A case that needs complex gum surgery, which may be referred to a periodontist.
  • Complex root canal re-treatment, which may be referred to an endodontist.
  • Jaw surgery or deeply buried teeth near nerves, which may be referred to an oral surgeon.
  • Very young children, children with complex medical or special needs or those who cannot cooperate, who may be referred to a paediatric dentist.
  • A severe bite or jaw problem that needs an orthodontist or a prosthodontist, for which Dr. Shah arranges coordinated care.
  • A request for treatment that the examination does not support.

We treat what we can treat well, and we say plainly when another clinician is better placed.

08 First visit

What should you expect when you first call or visit us in Andheri West?

Your first visit is a check-up and a conversation. If you have an urgent problem, tell us when you call.

  1. You call or message us on WhatsApp, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and we find a time.
  2. We ask about your health, medicines and worries, and Dr. Shah examines your mouth.
  3. X-rays are taken only if they are needed, and she explains what she finds.
  4. You leave with a plan, a clear idea of urgency and the next visit, and your questions answered.

Before you come

General dentist questions we hear in Andheri West

Straight answers to what patients ask before they book. If your question is not here, call or message us.

How is the cost of general dental care decided in Andheri West?

General dental care is planned for each person, so the cost is given only after your evaluation. It depends on what the examination finds, whether you need a check-up and clean only or treatment as well, the X-rays, the type of treatment and the number of visits. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the plan and the cost of each stage before you decide.

What does a general dentist do?

A general dentist looks after the health of your teeth, gums and mouth. That includes check-ups, cleaning, finding and treating decay and gum disease, fillings, root canal treatment, crowns, extractions, replacing missing teeth, and advice on prevention. When a problem needs a particular skill, a general dentist refers you.

How often should I see a dentist?

It depends on your mouth. Many people do well with a check-up and clean once or twice a year, and people with gum disease or a high risk of decay need to come more often. Dr. Shah tells you how often is right for you after an examination.

Do I need a check-up if my teeth do not hurt?

Yes. Decay and gum disease often cause no discomfort in their early stages, and finding them early means simpler and smaller treatment. A check-up is also the time to ask about brushing, diet and any changes you have noticed.

Can you see my children as well?

Yes. We see children for check-ups, cleaning advice, prevention and common treatment, and we refer very young children, children with complex needs or those who cannot cooperate to a paediatric dentist. Our children's dentistry page has more.

What if I have a dental emergency?

Call us during clinic hours and say that it is urgent. We try to see pain, swelling, broken teeth and lost fillings or crowns the same day, subject to availability. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, go to a hospital emergency department.

Do you refer to specialists?

Yes, when a case needs training or equipment beyond what is available at the clinic, such as complex gum surgery, complex root canal re-treatment, jaw surgery or severe bite problems. Dr. Shah explains why and arranges coordinated care.

Can I get a second opinion?

Yes. If you have a treatment plan from another clinic, bring it and any X-rays. Dr. Shah examines you, explains what she finds and compares the options. The decision stays with you.
