Assured Dental Care is a dental clinic in Andheri West, Mumbai, where bleeding gums are checked to find out why they bleed, not only to stop the bleeding. Healthy gums do not bleed when you brush or clean between your teeth. Bleeding usually means that plaque has stayed along the gum line and the gums have become inflamed. Less often, it is linked to hard brushing, a medicine, hormonal changes or a general health problem, and part of the visit is working out which applies to you.
Your care is led by Dr. Shreya Shah, Chief Dentist, who looks at your gums, measures them and asks about your health, medicines and cleaning habits. If you are looking for a dentist in Andheri West because your gums bleed, the first step is an examination, followed by a clear explanation of the cause, a clean if you need one, and a plan for keeping your gums healthy.

Bleeding gums treatment at Assured Dental Care in Andheri West, Mumbai finds out why your gums bleed, usually plaque causing inflammation, and treats it with a professional clean and a home-care plan. Dr. Shreya Shah examines your gums and asks about your health. Bleeding that carries on for weeks needs to be checked.
A gum check and cleaning can often be planned together, subject to availability.
Plaque, brushing habits, medicines, hormones and health conditions are all considered.
You leave with a cleaning plan that suits your mouth, and a review to check the gums.
The most common reason for bleeding gums is plaque. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that builds up along the gum line. The bacteria irritate the gums, which become red, swollen and tender, and they bleed easily when you brush, floss or eat hard food. At this stage the problem is called gingivitis, and it can be reversed.1
Other things can cause or add to bleeding. Brushing too hard or with a hard brush can injure the gums. Pregnancy and other hormonal changes make gums more sensitive. Blood-thinning medicines, smoking, poorly controlled diabetes and some blood conditions are also linked to bleeding gums. If plaque is not dealt with, gingivitis can progress to gum disease that affects the bone, as described on our periodontal treatment page.3
Our broader gum treatment page covers gum problems in general. This page is for the common first symptom, and for working out whether a professional teeth cleaning and scaling, better home care or a check with your doctor is the next step.
Bleeding gums are a sign of inflammation, and finding the cause is the first step to settling them.

Dr. Shreya Shah decides what is needed only after an examination. These are the general patterns.
For heavy bleeding, see dental emergency treatment. If bleeding is paired with easy bruising or you take blood thinners, tell us and your doctor. If gums are inflamed by plaque, a clean and home-care plan is usually enough.
Occasional light bleeding with plaque is common, and bleeding that persists is worth checking.
The right approach depends on the cause. Dr. Shah explains what applies to you.
Plaque and tartar are removed and you are shown how to clean along the gum line and between your teeth. This settles most bleeding caused by plaque.
1 to 2 visitsA soft brush, a gentler technique, cleaning between the teeth and stopping smoking all help gums heal. We show you what suits your mouth.
OngoingIf gums bleed without much plaque, or you have other symptoms, medicines, hormones or general health may play a part. We may suggest you see your doctor.

Most bleeding settles when plaque is removed and kept away, and we look further when it does not.
A first stage is usually one to two visits, followed by a review. Your plan may have more or fewer steps.4
Finding the cause, cleaning the teeth and teaching home care are all part of settling bleeding gums.
Dr. Shah asks when the bleeding started, what makes it worse, how you clean, and about smoking, medicines, diabetes, pregnancy and other health conditions.
She looks at the colour, swelling and shape of the gums, and for plaque, tartar and anything that traps plaque, such as a rough filling edge.
A fine probe measures the space around each tooth and records where bleeding occurs. This shows whether the problem is in the gum only or deeper.
X-rays show the bone around the teeth and are taken if the examination suggests gum disease.
You are told what she found, whether it is plaque, habits, medicines or something to discuss with your doctor, and what will help.
Plaque and tartar are removed above and just below the gum line, and the teeth are polished. Tender areas can be numbed.
You are shown a brushing method for the gum line, how to clean between your teeth and which aids suit you.
A few weeks later the gums are checked. Bleeding should have eased, and further care is planned for any area that has not settled.
Cost depends on your evaluation. Bleeding gums care is planned for each mouth, so no single figure fits everyone.
Two people with bleeding gums can need very different care. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the stages, and the cost of each stage is discussed before you decide to go ahead.

Cleaning gently and regularly is the main treatment for bleeding gums, and review shows whether it is working.
Most bleeding gums are simple to treat, and we say clearly when you need more than a clean.
Your first visit starts with questions and an examination so the care suits your gums. Cleaning can often be done at the same visit, subject to availability.
Bring a list of the medicines you take, and tell us about blood thinners, diabetes, pregnancy, heart conditions, smoking and allergies. Brush as usual before you come. If your gums are very tender, tell us and we can plan numbing.

Bleeding gums care is planned for each mouth, so the cost is given only after your evaluation. It depends on the cause, how much plaque and tartar there is, whether cleaning below the gum line is needed, the number of visits, any X-rays and any other treatment needed. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the plan and the cost of each stage before you decide.
Bleeding is common, but it is not healthy. Healthy gums do not bleed when you brush or clean between your teeth. Bleeding usually means the gums are inflamed by plaque. Do not stop cleaning, because that makes it worse. If it carries on for more than a week or two, have your gums checked.
Yes. Brushing hard, or using a hard-bristled brush, can injure the gums. But gums that bleed are more often inflamed by plaque, and brushing harder does not help. A soft brush, gentle small circles and careful cleaning along the gum line work better. We show you.
Plaque and gum disease are the most common causes. Pregnancy and other hormonal changes, some medicines such as blood thinners, smoking, poorly controlled diabetes, a poor diet and some blood conditions can also play a part. If your gums bleed easily and you have other symptoms, we may suggest that you see your doctor as well.
See us if your gums bleed for more than a week or two, if they are swollen, painful or receding, if you have bad breath that does not go, or if teeth feel loose. Bleeding that is heavy or does not stop needs prompt attention.
Mouthwash does not remove plaque, so it does not treat the cause. A short course of an antibacterial rinse may be advised in some cases, but daily cleaning of the teeth and gum line, and a professional clean, are what settle the gums.
When plaque is removed and cleaning at home improves, gums often start to settle within one to two weeks and look healthier within a few weeks. If they do not, there may be deeper disease or another cause, and we look into it.
Most often it is gingivitis, which is reversible. Sometimes it is a sign of gum disease that has reached the bone, or, rarely, of a general health problem. That is why persistent bleeding should be checked rather than ignored.
If your gums bleed when you brush, look red or swollen, or have bled for more than a week or two, an examination shows why and what will help. If another clinic has given you a gum treatment plan, we are happy to give a second opinion. Call or message us during clinic hours and we will confirm a time with you.
