Teeth Whitening in Andheri West, Mumbai

Assured Dental Care is a dental clinic in Andheri West, Mumbai, where teeth whitening is offered to lighten the natural colour of teeth that have yellowed with age or darkened with tea, coffee or tobacco. Whitening uses a peroxide gel that lightens the colour of the tooth from within. It is a dental treatment that starts with an examination, because decay, gum disease and some fillings affect whether and how whitening can be done.

Your care is led by Dr. Shreya Shah, Chief Dentist, who checks your teeth and gums first, records your starting shade and explains the methods that suit you. If you are looking for a dentist in Andheri West for teeth whitening, the first step is an examination and a talk about what you want and what is realistic for your teeth.

Teeth whitening at Assured Dental Care in Andheri West, Mumbai lightens natural teeth with a peroxide gel, in the clinic or with custom trays at home under supervision. Dr. Shah explains which method suits your teeth, your gums and your routine.

01 Overview

What is teeth whitening, and how does it lighten teeth?

Teeth whitening lightens the colour of natural teeth using a gel that contains peroxide. The gel releases oxygen, which passes into the tooth and breaks up the molecules that cause stains. The tooth is lightened from within, and the surface is not scraped away. It works on natural tooth colour and does not change crowns, veneers or fillings.1

Teeth darken because of age, because of staining from tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco, because of some medicines taken in childhood, and because of injury to a tooth. A professional teeth cleaning and scaling removes surface stain first, and some people find this is all they need. Whitening is advised when the stain is within the tooth.2

A single darkened tooth after injury or root canal treatment can sometimes be lightened from inside the tooth. When teeth are chipped, misshapen or heavily restored, other treatments such as veneers or dental bonding may suit better, and we explain the options.

Whitening lightens natural teeth from within, and a dental check first shows whether it will suit yours.

02 Suitability

Who can have teeth whitening in Andheri West?

Dr. Shreya Shah decides this only after an examination of your teeth and gums. These are the general patterns.

Whitening may suit you if

  • Your natural teeth have yellowed or darkened with age or staining.
  • Your teeth and gums are healthy, or any problems are treated first.
  • You want a lighter shade, and understand that results vary.
  • You have no more than mild tooth sensitivity.
  • You can avoid heavy staining food, drink and tobacco afterwards.

Whitening may not suit you if

  • You have untreated decay, gum disease or worn enamel, which must be treated first.
  • Your front teeth have crowns, veneers or large fillings that will not change colour.
  • You have very sensitive teeth that are not managed.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding, or under the age at which whitening is advised.
  • Your teeth are grey or brown from a cause that gel does not reach well, such as some medicines taken in childhood.

If gums are inflamed, gum treatment usually comes first. If a tooth has decay, a filling is done before whitening. If stains are very deep or teeth are uneven, we explain other options.

Whitening suits healthy natural teeth, and an examination shows whether yours qualify.

03 Options

Whitening methods and options at our Andheri West dental clinic

The right method depends on your teeth, your gums and how quickly you want results. Dr. Shah explains the choices.

In-clinic whitening

Gel is applied to the teeth at the clinic with the gums protected, in a single longer visit or a few visits. It suits people who want to be supervised throughout.

One or more visits

Supervised home whitening

Custom trays are made from impressions or a scan of your teeth, and you use gel in them at home, as directed, over a number of days. The dentist checks progress.

Planned per case

Other approaches

A professional clean can remove surface stain. Veneers or bonding can improve the colour and shape of teeth that do not whiten well.

04 Procedure

How teeth whitening is done in Andheri West, step by step

Your plan depends on the method you choose and how your teeth respond. It may have more or fewer steps.1

Good results come from a dental check, a plan that suits your teeth and a method you can follow.

  1. Examination and X-rays

Dr. Shah checks your teeth and gums for decay, gum disease, worn enamel and old fillings, and takes X-rays if needed. Problems are treated before whitening.

  2. Discussing what you want

You talk about the shade you hope for, how long you want it to take and any past sensitivity. We explain what is realistic for your teeth.

  3. Cleaning the teeth

A professional clean removes plaque and surface stain, so that the gel can reach the tooth. Some staining disappears at this step.

  4. Recording your shade

Your starting shade is matched against a shade guide and noted, and photographs may be taken. This lets you see the change.

  5. Protecting the gums

For in-clinic whitening, a barrier protects the gums and soft tissues from the gel. For home whitening, custom trays are made so that the gel stays on the teeth.

  6. Applying the gel

In the clinic, the gel is applied to the teeth and left for the time planned, then removed. At home, you use gel in the trays as directed.

  7. Checking the result

Your shade is checked again. More gel or a further visit can be planned if you want to go lighter and the teeth are comfortable.

  8. Aftercare and maintenance

You are told what to avoid in the first days and how to keep the colour. Touch-ups can be planned if you want to refresh the shade later.

05 Cost

What decides the cost of teeth whitening in Andheri West, Mumbai?

Cost depends on your evaluation. Teeth whitening is planned for each person, so no single figure fits everyone.

Two people can need very different plans. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the stages, and the cost of each stage is discussed before you decide to go ahead.

What changes the plan

  • The method chosen
  • Your starting shade and the shade you want
  • Whether a clean or other treatment is needed first
  • The number of visits
  • Whether custom trays are made
  • Whether any touch-up is planned
  • Treatment of sensitivity, if it arises

What the evaluation covers

  • An examination of your teeth and gums
  • X-rays when they are needed
  • A record of your starting shade
  • An explanation of the methods and what to expect
06 Aftercare

What should you do after teeth whitening, and when should you call?

The first 48 hoursYour teeth are more open to staining. Avoid tea, coffee, red wine, dark sauces, tobacco and strongly coloured foods. Choose lightly coloured food and clear drinks.
First weekSensitivity to cold, heat or air is common and usually settles within a few days. A toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help. Avoid very cold or very hot drinks if they trigger it.
Home whitening daysUse the trays and gel exactly as directed. Wipe away excess gel from the gums, and stop and call us if your gums or teeth become sore.
Long termBrush twice a day and keep up regular cleaning. Limit staining food, drink and tobacco. If your shade fades, a touch-up can be planned.

Warning signs that need a call the same day

  • Pain in a tooth that does not settle after a few days
  • White patches or soreness on the gums that do not fade
  • Burning in the mouth or throat
  • A tooth that becomes very sensitive to touch or biting
  • Swelling of the gum or face
  • Uneven colour that bothers you

Call 08806796696 or message us on WhatsApp. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling is spreading to your eye or neck, go to a hospital emergency department. For a painful tooth, see dental emergency treatment.

Most side effects fade within days, and we can adjust the plan if they do not.

07 Risks and limits

What are the risks of teeth whitening, and when do we advise against it?

Risks and complications

  • Short-term sensitivity to cold, heat or air, which is the most common side effect.1
  • Gum irritation or white patches on the gum if gel touches it, which usually fade within hours to days.
  • Uneven results, especially where teeth have different thickness, fillings or old stains.
  • Crowns, veneers and fillings that do not change, so that they no longer match the lighter natural teeth.
  • Colour that fades over time, so results are not lasting.
  • Pain in teeth that have untreated decay, cracks or exposed roots.

When we advise against, delay or refer

  • Untreated decay or gum disease, which must be treated first.
  • Heavily worn or cracked teeth and very sensitive teeth that are not managed.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding, and young people below the age at which whitening is advised.
  • Front teeth that are mostly crowns, veneers or large fillings, where whitening cannot give an even result.
  • Staining that comes from inside the tooth, such as from some medicines, where results are unpredictable and other options may suit better.
  • A request for a shade that is not realistic for your teeth, because we aim to explain what is possible.

Whitening works well on healthy natural teeth, and we say when it will not give you what you want.

08 First visit

What happens at your first teeth whitening visit in Andheri West?

Your first visit is an examination and a plan. Whitening itself starts only when your teeth and gums are ready for it.

  1. We ask about your goals, past sensitivity, and any medicines or conditions.
  2. Dr. Shah examines your teeth and gums, takes X-rays if needed, and records your shade.
  3. She explains which methods suit you, what is realistic and the risks.
  4. The plan, any treatment needed first, and the next steps are explained before you decide anything.

Before you come

Brush as usual before you come, and tell us about sensitivity, pregnancy, allergies and medicines. Mention any crowns, veneers or fillings on your front teeth, because they will not change colour.

12 Questions

Teeth whitening questions we hear in Andheri West

Straight answers to what patients ask before they book. If your question is not here, call or message us.

How is the cost of teeth whitening decided in Andheri West?

Teeth whitening is planned for each person, so the cost is given only after your evaluation. It depends on the method chosen, the starting colour of your teeth, whether a clean or other treatment is needed first, the number of visits, whether custom trays are made and any touch-up plan. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the plan and the cost of each stage before you decide.

How does teeth whitening work?

Whitening gels contain peroxide, which breaks down into oxygen that passes into the tooth and breaks up the molecules that cause stains. This lightens the tooth from within. It does not remove the surface of the tooth, and it works on natural tooth colour only. Whitening is a dental treatment that should follow an examination.

Will whitening work on my crowns, fillings or veneers?

No. Whitening gel lightens natural teeth only. Crowns, veneers, fillings and bonding do not change colour, so if you have them on front teeth, they may no longer match after your natural teeth are lightened. We check this before starting and plan around it.

Does whitening cause sensitivity?

It can. Many people feel short-term sensitivity to cold or a mild tenderness of the gums during or after whitening. These effects usually settle within a few days. If you already have sensitive teeth, gum disease or worn enamel, tell us, because we may suggest another approach or a gentler plan.

How long do the results last?

Results fade over time, and how long they last differs from person to person. Tea, coffee, red wine, tobacco and some foods stain teeth again. Touch-up treatment can be planned. We cannot say in advance how long the colour will stay.

Is whitening right for everyone?

No. Whitening is usually not advised for children, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it needs care in people with gum disease, decay, worn enamel or very sensitive teeth. Teeth stained by some medicines or by an injury inside the tooth may respond differently. We tell you honestly if whitening will not suit you.

What is the difference between clinic and home whitening?

In-clinic whitening is done at the clinic in a single longer visit or a few visits, with the gums protected. Home whitening uses custom trays made for your teeth and gel that you use as directed at home, with checks by the dentist. Dr. Shah explains which suits your teeth and your routine.

Can I buy whitening products instead?

Some products sold in shops and online have not been checked for your teeth, and trays that do not fit can leak gel on the gums. Whitening of teeth that have untreated decay or gum disease can cause pain. An examination first makes sure that whitening is suitable and that the method is right for you.
