Assured Dental Care is a dental clinic in Andheri West, Mumbai, where fluoride treatment is used to strengthen teeth and protect them from decay. Fluoride is a mineral that makes tooth enamel more resistant to the acid made by plaque bacteria and can help to repair the very first stage of damage. In the clinic, a concentrated fluoride varnish is painted onto the teeth in a few minutes. It is used for children and for adults who are at higher risk of cavities.
Your care is led by Dr. Shreya Shah, Chief Dentist, who first examines your teeth and asks about your brushing, diet and risk of decay. If you are looking for a dentist in Andheri West for fluoride treatment, the first step is an examination, followed by a clear explanation of whether fluoride varnish suits you or your child, how often it is needed and what else will help.

Fluoride treatment at Assured Dental Care in Andheri West, Mumbai paints a concentrated fluoride varnish onto the teeth to strengthen enamel and help prevent decay. Dr. Shreya Shah examines your teeth first and advises how often it is needed. It suits children and adults at higher risk of cavities, and it works well with good brushing.
Examination and fluoride treatment can often be planned together, subject to availability.
Fluoride makes enamel more resistant to acid and can help to repair early damage.
Varnish is painted on in a few minutes and needs no drilling or injections.
Fluoride is a mineral found in toothpaste, in some water and in some foods. When it is present on the tooth surface, it becomes part of the enamel and makes it harder to dissolve. When enamel has lost some minerals to acid, fluoride helps it to take them back. This is how it can reverse the earliest stage of decay, before a hole has formed.2
Professional fluoride treatment uses a much more concentrated form than toothpaste. The varnish is painted onto the teeth and sticks to them, so it releases fluoride over several hours. In a Cochrane review of trials in children and young people, fluoride varnish led to fewer decayed surfaces than no treatment.1
Fluoride treatment is one part of preventing decay. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, limiting sugar and regular check-ups matter as much. For young patients, our children's dentistry page explains the wider picture, and pit and fissure sealants add protection to the grooves of back teeth. Where a cavity has already formed, a filling is needed, because fluoride cannot fill a hole.
Fluoride treatment strengthens enamel and helps to prevent decay, and it works well with good brushing.

Dr. Shreya Shah decides this only after an examination and a talk about your risk of decay. These are the general patterns.
If decay has already formed, a filling is needed. For children, preventive care is explained on the children's dentistry page. If gums are inflamed or the teeth are heavily stained, a clean may come first.
Fluoride treatment helps teeth at higher risk, and an examination shows whether it suits you or your child.
The right choice depends on your risk of decay, your age and your cleaning habits. Dr. Shah explains what applies to you.

Often twice a yearBrushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste is the base of protection. A fluoride rinse or higher-strength toothpaste may be advised for some people.
Every daySealants protect the grooves of back teeth, and diet changes lower the sugar that feeds plaque. We explain these as well.

A fluoride visit is short. Your own plan may differ.1
Fluoride treatment is quick, and the advice that goes with it matters as much as the varnish.
Dr. Shah looks at the teeth, gums and any early spots on the enamel, and asks about brushing, food and drink, medicines and past cavities.
You are told whether fluoride treatment suits you or your child, how often it is advised and what else will help.
The teeth are cleaned so that the varnish can stick to them. A clean is done at the same visit if it is needed.
The teeth are dried gently with air and cotton rolls, so that the varnish stays on the surface.
A thin layer of fluoride varnish is brushed onto the teeth. It looks yellowish or clear and sets within a short time.
You are told what to avoid for the next hours, such as hot drinks, hard food and brushing, so that the varnish keeps working.
We go through toothpaste, the amount to use, and how to cut down on sugar. For children, parents are shown how to help.
The next fluoride visit is planned according to your risk, often every few months.
Cost depends on your evaluation. Fluoride treatment is planned for each person, so no single figure fits everyone.
Two people can need fluoride treatment at different intervals. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the plan, and the cost of each stage is discussed before you decide to go ahead.

Fluoride varnish helps, and daily brushing and food habits carry most of the protection.
Fluoride is an aid to good care, not a replacement for it, and we say so plainly.
Your first visit starts with an examination, so the fluoride suits your teeth. The treatment itself is quick.

Teeth and gums are checked before fluoride is applied, so that cavities and other problems are not missed.
Fluoride and good care can stop early damage from becoming a hole that needs a filling.
You are told what fluoride can do and what it cannot, and what else will help.

Fluoride treatment is planned for each person, so the cost is given only after your evaluation. It depends on the form used, such as varnish or a gel in a tray, the number of teeth treated, how often it is repeated, whether a clean is done first and the examination. After the examination, Dr. Shreya Shah explains the plan and the cost of each stage before you decide.
Fluoride varnish is a sticky, concentrated fluoride paint that is brushed onto the teeth. It sticks to the tooth surface and releases fluoride over several hours, which helps to strengthen enamel and to repair the earliest stage of decay. It is quick, and the teeth need no drilling.
In a Cochrane review of trials in children and young people, those treated with fluoride varnish had, on average, around 43 in 100 fewer decayed, missing or filled surfaces in adult teeth and around 37 in 100 fewer in baby teeth, compared with those who were not. Results vary, and fluoride works well together with brushing and a healthy diet.
Fluoride varnish is used for children from the time their first teeth come through, in small amounts, as advised by the dentist. Young children tend to swallow toothpaste, so we also advise how much to use. Dr. Shah explains the right amount and frequency for your child's age and risk.
It is often applied twice a year, and more often, for example every three to four months, when the risk of decay is higher. Dr. Shah advises how often is right for you or your child after an examination.
Yes. It helps adults with frequent cavities, a dry mouth, exposed tooth roots, sensitive teeth or braces, which make cleaning difficult. It is not a substitute for brushing and cleaning between the teeth.
Follow the instructions we give you. Usually you can eat soft food straight away, and you avoid hot drinks, hard or sticky food and brushing until later in the day or the next morning, so that the varnish stays in contact with the teeth. We tell you the exact timing for the product we use.
Too much fluoride taken in over a long period while adult teeth are forming can cause faint white marks on the teeth, called fluorosis. This is why young children use only a smear or a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and are helped to spit it out. The small amounts used in varnish are applied by the dentist and are not swallowed in quantity.
If you or your child get cavities often, have early white spots or a dry mouth, or have sensitive exposed roots, an examination shows whether fluoride treatment will help. If another clinic has advised fluoride, we are happy to give a second opinion. Call or message us during clinic hours and we will confirm a time with you.
